Even though my parents said I was grounded, they still let John come over. He was a cool kid, but sometimes it got a little awkward when he was around. I knew he had feelings for me, but I just didn't feel anything for him romantically. Sure, he was cute, in a shy nerdy kind of way, but secretly I had a crush on someone else, and John knew it. Though, I never told anyone.
"Rain, your friend's been in the bathroom an awfully long time. His uncle is here to get him, will you please tell him to come downstairs?" My dad nearly yelled as he came into the TV room where we had been playing video games.
"Sure, dad. He probably just didn't want to come out of the bathroom because he knew I'd beat him again." My dad obviously didn't see the humor in it, so I did as he asked. When I was walking down the hall towards the bathroom, I noticed steam coming from under the door. That's odd, what is he doing in there? I knocked lightly on the door, "John, you ok? Are you taking a shower?"
The door opened quickly, "I'm ok. Thanks for inviting me over." He was all wet as if he had been in a sauna. But he didn't seem to care. He walked down the stairs into the living room as if nothing was wrong.
"What on earth has been going on here?!" John's uncle yelled when he saw him.
"Don't ask me? Ask your boy here, he's been in the bathroom for over an hour!" my dad yelled back.
John just pushed past them both and headed out the door to his uncle's minivan without saying another word.
"I knew I shouldn't have let him come over here, not after what he's been telling me your child has been up to at school lately! And don't even get me started on what that lunatic father of his has been telling me about you folks!"
"Sir, I think you better leave now." My mom appeared in the doorway across from him, nonchalantly sipping a cup of herbal tea.
Without a moment's hesitation Jerry left.
Then my parents turned to me angrily, "I know you feel sorry for the boy, but I don't want him over here again. Especially if he is going to pull a stunt like that!" My dad growled.
"Honey, he's not stable. We just don't want you to get hurt."
"Oh, so now I am not allowed to have any friends?! This is ridiculous!" I stormed out and went to my room. I laid on my bed and turned my radio on. I then stared up at the canopy over my head. There was a little bee just sitting there watching me. "I bet you don't have problems like this." I said, "as if you even understand what I am saying."
"Oh, but I do."
"What that. . .!" I nearly had a heart attack.
"Don't be afraid, it's me Brindee. From you English class."
"Uh, ok. Why are you a bee?"
"I think you know why. The question is, what can a bee do for you? You want to get revenge on your parents don't you? I'm just the person to do it!"
"I don't want to kill my parents. Besides, won't you die too? "
"Naturally, but that's why I would recruit someone else. I can do that, you know. They think I am one of them. Let me tell you, they are really quite ugly up close, but you get used to it. So what do you say?"
"Gosh, I don't know. What's in it for you?" I can't believe I'm talking to a bee!
