Kimberly

After being briefed I assured them I wouldn't screw this up a second time. We had traveled in a car this time and reached the town he was supposed to live in the early evening. We had no idea where to begin looking for him so we decided to hit the mall and see if anything turned up. Well their mall wasn't much but it wasn't bad. We left Mike in the car we left him a spare key if he needed it, he was asleep anyways.

A kid bumped into me, he had blue jeans and a black polo. I nudged Brian and he turned to look. The kid looked back and smirked at us, almost daring us to follow him. Well we didn't have much choice and we did so. He headed into a cafe and sat in a corner booth with his back to the corner. We walked over and sat down at his table.

"I've been expecting you," He glanced at Brian. He looked at me, "But you, you are not right."

"What do you mean?" I demanded. "I'm not alright?"

He shrugged and nodded, "I'd have to do more tests but yes, something about you is definitely not human."

Brian laughed and he said quietly, "I don't know if you noticed but I'm not exactly human either."

The kid rolled his eyes, "Really? I hadn't noticed. You were sent from the government to..." He paused, looking for the right word, "Assess me?"

"Not exactly," Brian looked uncomfortable. "We are suppose to take you in whether you join us or not."

"You don't look like you like that order," The boy looked displeased. He glanced past us and then stood up, "Let's go then and let's be quick about it."

I followed his gaze but didn't see anything unusual, "What's going on?"

"I'll tell you later," He answered.

We stood and went to our car. He shook his head, "That's no good. I can't believe you two led them right to me."

"Them?" Brian asked. "The darkness?"

The kid nodded, "My name is Jared by the way." He was still walking. I glanced behind us and saw a group of people round the corner.

The boy rounded a corner and started to run. I looked at Brian and followed after him. We got around another corner before they could see which way we had gone.

"Now explain who they are and why they are after us," I nearly shouted.

"They are trying to kill my, our, kind off forever," He said. "At least I think that's the right group. For all I know they could be the government except that I recognized him. You don't look well that's why I mentioned it, it's probably nothing."

Brian nodded, "He is right you don't look so good."

"So where are we headed?" I asked Jared.

"My car," He answered. "It's a little busted up but it'll get us back to your headquarters."

"So you are coming with us, just like that ready to sign your life away?" Brian seemed agitated. "Don't you desire freedom in the least?"

"Who said I was going to sign my life away?" Jared retorted. "I just have more than enough enemies without the government after me as well. Your buddies Alex and Mathis stopped by too. So yeah I have enough enemies."

"Mathis is powerless, he broke his word," Brian snickered.

"I guess the bolt of lightening struck me on it's own then, and on a clear sky," Jared replied calmly.

We made it to the car and got in. Jared insisted he drive.

"Do you even know how to get to Washington from here?" Brian asked.

Jared only nodded and he made Brian sit in the back. He actually had a fairly nice car if he could have gotten it fixed up. I looked back and saw the guys pulling up.

Jared looked in the mirror and smirked, "Let's go."

He put the car in gear and began driving. He quickly pulled away from the other guys, but he was speeding very badly. We heard the lights and saw a cop car behind us. I heard his phone start ringing.

"Uh," Jared explained. "You'd better answer that, it's my uncle."

I took the phone off his arm and answered it, "Hello?"

"Who are you and where is my nephew?" A gruff looking man asked. He had a police helmet on.

"I'm a CIA agent and right now your son is driving me to safety," I answered honestly.

"Riiighht. Let me talk to Jared," He demanded. "And tell him to pull over already, I'd hate to have to arrest him."

I faced the phone towards Jared, "Sorry Uncle Fred, I can't pull over there are some really bad people trying to kill us right now."

Jared shifted again. Six gears? Did he modify this thing? He began to pull away from the cop car and I saw the speedometer going over one hundred sixty. It didn't have more numbers than that.

Jared smirked and he said, "If this baby had wings I could make her fly."

We got back to Washington in what must have been record time, at least for cars. He dropped us off in front of the headquarters as we directed and he drove off before we could say anything more.

"Great we had him this close and then we lost him," Brian complained.

I shook my head, "He'll be back."
