I looked around and couldn't seem to locate the direction the attack came from. I saw someone down at the other end of the block. He walked closer and I recognized him. Oh great, I wonder if he wants to fight over Jessica again.
"Hi Mathis."
"Ivar," He was about a hundred feet away from me.
I felt the energy and saw it in my mind before it started to leave his fingers. I dodged to the side but not fast enough to dodge the electricity. I flew into the air and landed with a thud on the ground behind me. Alright now I know what a lightning bolt feels like. I stood up and he was still there.
"What wrong Ivar?" He taunted me. "No match for me any longer? I've been waiting for this moment for six months."
"Then you'll have to keep waiting." I charged and saw the attack a moment before it landed again, this time I ripped the earth up and blocked the attack completely. I put it back down after.
He looked dumbfounded. I smirked and mused "I thought you would have been paying attention to those on the hill. I did. All the faces still burned into my memory. I can't forget a single one and there were many."
"I swear if it's the last thing I do, I will kill you this night!" He yelled and charged at me.
I whispered, "Be careful what you swear."
He had summoned the electricity into his fists and we began fighting in close combat. He hit me with one of the fists and sent me flying again. This time I righted myself in the air and landed on my feet. I stood back up fully and looked back at him. This fight, if he hits me again... I didn't want to think about it. I quickly looked for an answer and saw his hands again as he charged at me. That's it! Very haphazard but yes that will work.
I broke the metal part of a nearby mailbox and bent it into handcuffs. He swung at me and I dodged and grabbed both right arm and held it out behind his back. I made the cuffs slam onto his fist. I then grabbed his other arm and cuffed it as well. I then push him forward onto his face and watched as he tried to create the electricity and only succeeded in hurting himself with his power.
I stood him up and whispered in his ear, "I'm glad you came to me first and didn't go hurt anybody who couldn't have defended themselves."
Jessica came running up, "That was amazing."
"Not really I just used his strength against him."
"I guess it's now or never," Jessica said. "I want you to join a group my dad is forming."
"A group?"
"Of people like us," She answered. "You don't know what you are going to do anyways. Why not do this?" She pointed at him.
"I'm going to be hunting down our own kind?" I didn't like that idea.
"No, I shouldn't be telling you this because it is above top secret but you will be policing our kind, bringing in the criminals." She answered.
"Call your dad then," I sighed. "We'll need someone to pick this scumbag up."
He scoffed, "What's my charge?"
"Attempted murder moron," I answered him. "You were trying to kill me. Or I could make the charge assaulting a police office with a deadly weapon and attempted murder."
"You aren't the real police. People will never accept our kind," He spit at me.
"Whatever," Jessica was on the phone.
About an hour later I was in the president's office.
"You wanted to see me sir?" He motioned to the chair in front of him. I sat down.
"Yes Ivar," He pushed a piece of paper in front of me. "Do you know what this is?"
"It's a confidentiality agreement and a contract that states that, basically, you own me." I guessed.
"Close," He laughed. "It's an contract that I don't expect you to sign right away. Go home, read it, makes changes if you want and bring it back to me."
"Wait wait wait, make changes? I can make changes if I don't like something?" I was a little less uneasy.
"Well I'm going to look over any changes you make and once I do we can meet and talk about the changes you made but yes," He answered. "There was one other thing."
"About your daughter sir," I said, knowingly. "You want to know my intentions towards her."
He nodded, "How'd you know that?"
I shrugged, "Anything I'd say would still be a guess as to how I knew it. I plan on marrying her at some point sir, but not now. I realized from my experience earlier this evening that I'm not ready for that."
"You mean catching the criminal?"
I shook my head, "I meant talking to my father. Permission to be dismissed, sir."
He nodded, "Time for us both to get some sleep."
Now where to sleep tonight...
