I woke up earlier than normal and traveled down to the kitchen area to get a drink. The sun had only been out for maybe an hour. On my way there I heard my father talking to someone. Being a curious person, I had to investigate. I moved quietly to where the voices were coming from and peered inside. Secretary Landon? What's he doing here?
"So you understand I want this to be a top secret operation," My dad said. "No one is to know who they are working for on this."
"What about your daughter sir?" He asked.
"Let her join if she wishes but try and keep her identity a secret," He replied. "Go now I'll take care of the funding this afternoon."
"Yes sir," Secretary Landon turned towards the door and saw me. He glanced back at my dad, "Your daughter is here to see you I think."
I walked inside like I'd been caught doing something much worse than I had. Once Secretary Landon was outside he motioned for me to sit down.
"Jessica," He smiled softly. "I guess I'll tell you myself so you don't go getting yourself in trouble. I'm going to be setting up a group and I want you to know you are welcome to join if you wish."
"But you don't want me to," I knew he'd try and protect me once he knew. "Why are you always protecting me? I can create and manipulate fire in my hand and you are trying to protect me still? I'm not a little kid anymore, dad."
"Look I didn't say you couldn't join, I said you could. Just because I'm worried about you doesn't mean I think you're still a child. But you still are my child and I'll always be concerned for your safety." I calmed down a little bit but I could still feel the heat from anger in my chest. I think anger is going to be an issue for me.
"Alright so when is it starting?" I asked. "I'm in."
"A few weeks to a few months," He answered. "We need to set up a secure location as a base of operations and such. I promise I'll let you know as soon as it's ready."
I gave him a hug, "Thanks dad. Guess I'd better get ready for school."
I walked out of the room and got ready for school.
*A few hours later*
I walked into the cafeteria and stopped, "Oh my goodness." Everyone was staring at the ceiling and walls that, yesterday, had been destroyed by my boyfriend and that girl and now resembled some kind of animal habitat.
Lunch was very strange, my friends had kind of exiled me from their group. Though I think it was partly that I didn't feel like socializing without Ivar there. The rest of the school day went about normally and I went home and waited a few hours before asking my bodyguard for a ride to Ivar's. It was after dark and I wasn't exactly sure what to expect at his house.
