Rachel

They were taking me to the facility I wanted them to, just as planned. They put me in something they called Sector A and said Deothanos would be down to see me shortly. Well I wasn't about to wait for him. I became a shadow and left immediately, I jumped from one guard's shadow to the next. They didn't notice I was gone for a good while.

I was hoping to see Allison but I guess her power was not dangerous and she was probably in a less restrictive area. I wandered the halls looking in the medical area, I was assuming they'd have to keep him unconscious to contain him. I walked into one room and I saw Rain on a table tied down. No one was in the room and it didn't look like they'd done anything yet. Must have been getting prepped.

I let down my invisibility and untied her. She looked quite relieved to see me to say the least. I undid her gag last, mostly because she didn't need it out for me to get her our of there if I had to leave in a hurry.

"Rachel I need to talk to somebody, please," She pleaded. She looked older, more experienced than I. This last year weighed heavily on everyone it seemed.

I just smiled at her, "We'll have plenty of time to catch up we just need to get you out of here and find Jared, then we'll go find Kindra and break out of this place."

"I'm pregnant," She looked down as if she had something to be ashamed of. She was still seated on the operation table.

Honestly I couldn't blame her much because I knew instantly the only person who could have been the father. I put a hand under her chin and pulled her to look up at me.

"He must be an amazing man for you to have found him worthy," I tried cheering her up. "Come on the only reason Deothanos isn't up here with you I'm guessing is because he's going to see me. Once he realizes I'm gone the game will be over."

We hurried through the halls and finally found the room with Jared safely inside. I shadow stepped inside and gently placed a hand on his face. He stirred at my presence but he was hooked up to a machine that we designed to keep him unconscious.

I disconnected it and heard Rain yell something through the door. We were out of time. I appeared on the other side of the door and waved goodbye to the guards as I brought Rain to the realm I had called home for nearly a year.

"Take my hand Rain," I had a tear forming on my face. "We have to leave."

"But Jared is still in there," Rain protested.

I turned away, "I know but if the guards know we are here it means Deothanos will be here momentarily. We are safe for a little while in the shadow world but not forever." We could see the guards walking around and through us trying to figure out where we'd gone. I was openly crying now, "He knew the risks when he let them capture him. But now that I know where this base is I can come back any time, day or night and they will never be the wiser."

Rain took my hand, "Let's go then."

I began jumping from place to place, down the halls and finally out into the open air. It was much more draining then I had thought it would be taking a second person with me. Then again it's not the distance of shadow stepping that draining me but the number. I can jump two feet or two miles and it drains just as much and I hadn't rested since that encounter.

"Come on I know a base nearby that was never compromised by the enemy. Jared and I used it just a week ago," I said to Rain. "We'll walk but it's not far." I then remembered something, "If you can't make it I'll either carry you or make the effort to shadow step, alright?"

Rain smiled and we walked to the base.
