A Dark Room

"In moments we'll have apprehended all of your little terrorists," Deothanos spoke to the man who had issued the order to deliver the gas to the various cities. "It's over. We win."

"Do you really think I'd make it that easy?" The man spoke. He was chained to the chair he sat in. "My mind was so highly resistant to your attempts to steal the information."

"I checked twice and it was the same each time, I know you didn't make it up," Deothanos waved it aside. "Trying to trick me. Do you want more punishment?" He laughed, "You actually amuse me somewhat."

"You didn't get all the information from me," The man grinned. "There are bombs linked to each of my soldiers that was the gas. Bombs of sufficient magnitude to shatter the containers. They are set to explode if and when I die. Your mental probing weakened my body and I am holding on by shear will."

"You're bluffing. If you had that why haven't you just died yet?" Deothanos' question was answered by a beeping on the counter. It came from among the things they had found on the man now chained.

The man grinned, "All are in place. My bomb was set to explode with me as well. You'd better run."

He breathed out in a sigh of relief and suddenly all across the world bombs exploded in simultaneous destruction. The bombs themselves were minimal, but the gas they released was like a poison.

It moved and expanded, seeking out living targets. Infecting humans and then in a moment, it was gone. As if nothing at all had happened.

Back in the dark room Deothanos laughed and then suddenly sank to the ground, "Oh no. It is working. I only have a few hours. I have to make my move against them sooner than I thought."
