After hearing Mike's dilemma, Kindra suggested I do him a favor and create a sun room for him. I hadn't tried out my mother's powers, and didn't fully believe I had them. In theory, I wouldn't need to make a sky light, just a new sun.
I had Ivar help me move the floor in Mike's room so that it was much lower than the rest of the house. As we worked, Ivar confided in me.
"There's something weird going on here. Jared has been acting really weird lately."
"Well, he's been going through a lot lately."
"I guess you're right. We all have. But there is definitely something going on between him and Rachel."
"What makes you say that?"
"Well, they are inseparable, and neither of them seem to care that kids are dying left and right."
"Yeah, that is really weird. Good job, do you think Mike will like it?"
"Yeah, probably, but how will he get down? Now that I think of it, how will we get up? It's boiling in here, sure this won't be too much?"
"If it is, he'll let me know, and I'll make the sun smaller. Have you got enough left in you to make some dirt stairs?"
"I guess I could muster up the strength." he gave me a sly smile.
Once out of the pit, we joined the others with Mike in the kitchen.
"Chug! Chug! Chug!" they were all chanting as he gulped down the last drop of lima bean stew Allison had prepared for him.
"Blech! Hope I don't have to do that again!" he wiped his lips on his sleeve.
"You won't." I grinned, "Ivar and I have a surprise for you."
He looked confused, so we waved everyone to follow us to his room. They all looked around in awe, but left quickly because it was like a rain forest in there.
"This is great, guys! Thanks!" he gave us a big hug then went to take a look around.
"If you need anything, just let us know." I smiled and was about to follow Ivar out the door.
"Well, actually, I could use a little moisture in here. The sun is great! but I don't want to dry up."
I smiled and then showed him the sprinkler system we had installed in the ceiling.
As Ivar left, Jessica pulled him aside to chat. "look at them. they're all so cheery and having a good time. it's disgusting! it's like your little brother died for nothing! stupid creeps!" she then left him to think and went to her room.
